How to Use our ISEE Diagnostic Tools

Most people know that it’s important to take a few practice tests before the real exam, but what’s really crucial is learning from that practice. And sometimes that’s easier said than done.

Our team of ISEE educators and tech gurus have created an easy-to-use, online system that offers instant feedback on how your student can improve.

To make the most of our diagnostic system:

Step 1: Take a test. Have your child take a full-length, timed ISEE practice test. Many successful students take their first diagnostic exam several months before the real thing.

Step 2: Review the stanine scores. A stanine is a realistic representation of your child’s score on the practice test as compared to other students. It’s broken down by section. If there was a section or two section in which your student underperformed, that’s probably the subject(s) that will need the most practice.

Step 3: Explore the results. For each test section you’ll find a detailed breakdown of how your child performed organized by specific question subject (geometry versus arithmetic), question difficulty (Easy, Medium, Hard), and time spent on each question.

Step 4: Use the results to improve. Did your student struggle on certain subjects? He can review those topics and become familiar with the way those questions are worded. Did she miss as many “Easy” questions as did “Hard” questions? This could mean that she is making errors due to rushing and needs to practice pacing by completing more timed sections.

Step 5: Consider tutoring. A personal tutor can use our diagnostic feedback to help your student make the most of limited preparation time.
